“The absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence. Simply because you have evidence that something does exist, does not mean you can’t have evidence that something doesn’t exist. What I am saying is that there are known knowns and there are known unknowns, but there are also unknown unknowns. Things we don’t know that we don’t know.” —Gin Rummy (via changingperspective)

"It's impossible," said pride. "It's risky," said experience. "It's pointless," said reason. "Give it a try," said the heart.

“Usually we walk around constantly believing ourselves. “I’m okay” we say. “I’m alright”. But sometimes the truth arrives on you and you can’t get it off. That’s when you realize that sometimes it isn’t even an answer—it’s a question. Even now, I wonder how much of my life is convinced.” —The Book Thief, Markus Zusak (via fuckyeahliteraryquotes)

“But it’s like when my doctor told me the story of these two Brothers whose dad was a bad alcoholic. One brother grew up to be a successful Carpenter who never drank. The other ended up being a drinker as bad as his dad was. When they asked the first brother why he didn’t drink, he said that alter he saw what it did to his father, he Could never bring himself to even try it. When they asked the other brother, he said that he guessed he learned how to drink on his father’s knee. So, I guess we are who we are for a lot of reasons. And maybe we’ll never know most of them. But even if we don’t have the power to choose where we come from, we can still choose where we go from there. We can still do things. And we can try to feel okay about them.” —The Perks Of Being A Wallflower (via thegirlwiththebrokensmile)

"I love you," should never be something you are conditioned to say. A rant about society's understanding of love.

flowersforhamlet:

You should never say it merely because you are used to it.
You should never say it because you feel obliged to.

You should say it, everytime, as a conscious decision to affirm your commitment to the welfare of someone else.

You should say it, everytime, as though it’s the first time your are saying it- that is, nervous because you understand the gravity of those words.

It just shouldn’t be a thoughtless thing. I hate when people break up and stay friends and then it takes them awhile to get out of the “habit” of saying “I love you.”

It should never be a mere “habit.” The idea that love is something requiring no effort, requiring no thought does not do justice to it.

“To love is to suffer. To avoid suffering one must not love. But then one suffers from not loving. Therefore to love is to suffer, not to love is to suffer. To suffer is to suffer. To be happy is to love. To be happy then is to suffer. But suffering makes one unhappy. Therefore, to be unhappy one must love, or love to suffer, or suffer from too much happiness. I hope you’re getting this down.” —Woody Allen. (via andreams-)
